BING COPELAND TO ATTEND 2010 STEEL PIER CLASSIC

Virginia Beach, VA, April 28, 2010 - The Virginia Longboard Federation (VLF) is pleased to announce the 7th Annual Steel Pier Classic Surfing Contest and Surf Art Expo to take place Memorial Day Weekend (May 29-31, 2010) at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront, First Street Jetty and will be presented by Freedom Surf Shop and Quiksilver. This annual charity event will raise money for The Virginia Beach Noblemen. This year there will be a special guest, California’s living surfing legend, Bing Copeland, founder of “Bing Surfboards.” He will be attending the contest and signing his new book on Saturday May 29. The three day event celebrates the roots of surfing and will feature Professional Longboard and Shortboard divisions with a cash purse, amateur divisions, Stand Up Paddle surfing competition, SUP distance race, Shortboard and Longboard Club Challenges, Noseriding, Retro Longboard and Shortboard, and Tandem Surfing.Over 300 surfers from all over the United States are expected to attend.

Saturday May 29th everyone is invited to celebrate the art of surfing with a party at Hooks Sea Grille & Sushi at 8 p.m., with live music from the local beach band "Ray and the Ultraviolet's." Festivities will continue on Sunday night, May 30th at 8:30 pm at the First Street Jetty with“Movie Night on the Beach.” The VLF will be showcasing the new surf flick “Castles in the Sky” by Taylor Steele. The memory of former Virginian Pilot Sports Writer, Danielle Roach, will be honored at the awards ceremony with the presentation of the "Danielle Roach
Sportsmanship Award".
